Pandemics, Quarantines, Lockdowns, and 9 o’clock Last Calls (oh my): a brief ode to 2020

Dear Friend,

With the pandemic, nine o’clock last call and ten pm curfews, I spent my foggy New Year’s Eve in rural North Carolina playing with light in a cow pasture.

If it weren’t for such abnormal circumstances, I would not have been able to have this experience of being approached by a herd of cows on a damp, dark night and making some art by finding light in darkness

The light sources for the above pictures, starting from the top:

A house’s Christmas lights

A phone flashlight

Distant headlights

Light can be found anywhere if you let your eyes adjust and seek it.

The good thing about abnormal circumstances is that they’re bound to create new experiences.

Did you have a good Holiday? Did the current abnormality lead you to have a new experience? Hope you’re well.

Sincerely yours,

Charles
